Half Decent Scale, beta and thermal protection coasters
Levi yesterday designed a laser cut cardboard box for the 30 beta units. We don't yet have the production packaging, so he wanted to make something that'd protect it.
In the photo above there are two silicone coasters we're including. Those are *optional* to use, but it's because, for all scales, warming the weighing sensor will change the weight measured. Most high end scales ship with an optional insulator, like this one. You place the coasters like so:
In practice, I don't bother with the coasters, because I put a cool cup on the scale and the DE1 tares, and there's not enough time to effect the scale.
However, I can imagine that for a pourover, the warmth of the beverage would affect the weighing accuracy, since there's time enough to warm the scale. In practice, we're talking about only a few grams, so probably not enough to matter on a pour-over, either. At any rate, it's up to you.
We're hand-making 30 Half Decent Scales for the beta, and they're selling first to our Decent DE1 customers. I expect that we'll have mass quantity of these in March or April.
