Video : Decent Inside: how our espresso machine works
Years ago, I made an impromptu video showing the inside of the DE1, quickly explaining the water path, and gave an overview of how the Decent works.
I've often been asked to make an extended, higher quality version answering this: How does the Decent work?
This espresso machine works differently than any machine before or since. Two pumps heat water separately, and the pumps precisely mix the two streams of water at the last moment, to 0.3ºC accuracy. This setup also lets the Decent give you precisely the flow or pressure you indicate. Steam is at a super-hot-and-dry 160ºC, a full 30ºC hotter than boiler-based steam, and consequently more energetic and drier. In this video, we show you how this is all accomplished in the hardware.
