We're very lucky!

Bugs and her mother, on visiting Taiwan many years ago, paid a visit to the Guan Yu shrine known for good luck in business.  Perhaps that's what led  to the lucky number 8 appearing everywhere at Decent, all at once, and our many celebrations at this milestone event.  And maybe that's helped our business prosper, too.

Here's what happened recently.

On August 8th (the 8th month) we finished building our 8888th Decent Espresso machine.  We've been running Decent for 8 years.  Machine #88 came in the previous week for a repair, after five years with an early customer.

As gold is a lucky color (and number 8 is the luckiest number) in Chinese culture, we made machine #8888 completely golden-colored.  Chef Michael prepared a junk food feast of gold-colored food. Their favorite: fried chicken and hamburgers. I'm not kidding, that really is the staff's favorite food.

Every single HK employee received a “lucky money” envelope of HK$8888 (about USD$1135) in 8 bills each of $1000, $100, $10 and $1.  Tech support lead Shin (from Seoul, Korea) is on his honeymoon right now, but will join everyone in HK afterwards.  There's an envelope for him as well as for Winnie, J. and William (our mainland team), who are also coming in to celebrate.  They kind of went crazy on learning the amount and started to dance on the lunch table.  I don't think they were expecting to share in the luck as much.

We're also extremely lucky to have you, our customers and fans, giving us daily love and appreciation, as well as trusting us with your daily coffee need.

And finally, we're lucky that this idea, of a new espresso machine that went in a very different direction, has turned out well, so that all of us involved can enjoy a good life and the pleasure of interesting work that positively impacts your lives.
